PARIS – The newly elected president of France, Francois Hollande, met China's ambassador to the country, Kong Quan, on Monday, and both expressed willingness to further strengthen political and economic ties between their nations.
Hollande told Kong that France is willing to advance its trade relationship with China and expand the volume of bilateral investment.
The incoming leader stressed that France has attached great importance to the role China plays in the world's political and economic arenas and hopes to continue to work with Beijing in the Group of 20 framework while deepening cooperation on key international and regional issues.
Kong was the first foreign envoy with whom Hollande met after winning the French presidential election on Sunday. Hollande, leader of France's Socialist party, defeated incumbent Nicolas Sarkozy, a conservative, and will officially take office on May 15.
