JAKARTA - PT Pos Indonesia, a state-owned postal service company in Indonesia released a collection of the horse stamps here Tuesday to mark the Chinese Lunar Year of the Horse.

This set of three stamps features a strong Sumbawa Horse, a bamboo-made horse performing in a traditional Javanese dance and an Acehnese horse racing.

The 2,500 rupiah (some $0.2) stamp also features a Chinese calligraphic character for "horse" in traditional Chinese red which perfectly connects the Indonesian traditions and the Chinese Year of the Horse.

"According to Chinese belief, horse stands for nobility, swiftness and persistence, hopefully it will bring new spirit for all Indonesians in the Year of the Horse," said PT Pos Indonesia President Director Budi Setiawan.

The Horse is the seventh sign in the Chinese zodiac and the Year of the Horse runs from January 31, 2014 until February 18 next year.

PT Pos Indonesia introduced the popular commemorative stamp program in 2007 by issuing stamps of 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac.

The Chinese New Year which is celebrated by around 10 million ethnic Chinese has been set as national holiday by the Indonesian government in 2002.
