China and Kyrgyztan are deepening their cooperation and interdependence, especially in economic fields along their borders in China's northwest Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, Kyrgyz Prime Minister Djoomart Otorbaev told China Daily on Monday.
Otorbaev was visiting Xinjiang to attend the fourth China-Eurasia Expo, which is being held from Sept 1 to 6.
The expo has shown great value and is a significant opportunity for Kyrgyztan and other Central Asian countries to form closer ties with each other, and Kyrgyztan has participated in all three former expos, the prime minister said.
Otorbaev said the Silk Road played a vital role in history. President Xi Jinping's proposal of building a Silk Road Economic Belt opens up a new way for the involved countries, especially their governments, to strengthen communications and upgrade the status of the Silk Road.
"The routes, from Kashgar to Kyrgyztan's Osh and Bishkek, are significant for us," he said, "Also, the direct cargo, travel and business flights enable a bigger trade circle."
However, Kyrgyztan also wants to open China's market relying on commodities from Kazakhstan, Russia and Belarus, for they have established a Customs Union.
"We hope Chinese investors will set up companies in Kyrgyztan and transport goods to China via the present road and air routes," he said, "This is what we want to show at the expo."
In August, Xinjiang Construction and Production Corps established a modern agricultural exhibition center in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyztan.
This has great potential, Otorbaev said, and the industrially produced and pollution-free farm produce, such as vegetables, fruits, meat and dairy products, can be exported to or from China and Kyrgyztan.
Cooperation on border safety, tourism and the arts is also under consideration, he added.
