Concert pianist Tian Jiaxin will perform at Carnegie Hall's Isaac Stern Auditorium on Feb 18, the Chinese Lunar New Year's Eve.

Tian, recently named a Steinway Artist, is set to celebrate the Chinese New Year with a mix of classics and the world premiere of a contemporary Chinese work in her second Carnegie Hall performance.

In addition to playing Mozart, Chopin, Liszt and Beethoven, Tian will also perform the world premiere of Chinese composer Zhao Zhang's The Chinese Dream, which is full of fresh and lofty ancient charm and will give the audience a glimpse into China's 5,000-year history.

The piece is inspired by Confucius' Yi Zhuan (Commentaries on I Ching: the Book of Changes). The piece combines piano themes from the West with ancient Chinese musical idioms.

"The entire piece will be fully integrated with Chinese traditional and modern elements," she said, "played on a Western classical piano, using a variety of musical techniques to imitate chimes, stone-chimes; guqin, guzheng and pipa."
