NEW YORK - The Cuban national wrestling team will face off against the US in an exhibition in New York's Times Square later this month.
Team USA tells The Associated Press that the Cubans will wrestle in New York city on May 21 for the first time since the 2003 world championships. The dual meet has been billed "Salsa in the Square" and will feature matches in men's and women's freestyle and the Greco-Roman discipline.
This isn't the first time that New York City has hosted a key international meet as part of a celebration for Beat the Streets, an organization designed to support wrestling in New York schools. The US, Iran and Russia squared off in Grand Central Terminal as part of the successful effort to reinstate Olympic wrestling in 2013.
