Social media helps find missing baby

A whole city participated in disseminating information online to help a couple find their lost daughter, and the five-month-old baby girl was returned to them in two hours, in Changsha, Hunan province on Sunday.

The father, surnamed Zhou, a teacher at a private education agency, was busy organizing a children's activity at the Wanda Plaza in the city. His wife was helping him there, and his mother-in-law carried the baby to the site to see them. Then, a strange woman appeared and asked to hold the baby girl for a while, and the granny, mistaking her for Zhou's colleague, handed the baby to her. However, the woman ran away with the baby, and the granny soon lost track of her in the crowds.

Zhou and his wife sent out information on Wechat and Sina Weibo, all popular social networking sites in China, and the information went viral on the Chinese Internet.

Two hours later, a woman surnamed Cao called the police and said she might have found the girl. It turns out that her neighbor, a mentally ill woman who had always wanted a child, took the baby. Seeing her taking the baby home, and seeing the information about the missing child online, made Cao suspicious, and she called the police.
