Then US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton hailed Xi's trip during a lunch reception in Washington, saying "you came here on the Valentine's Day, which is a day of love and friendship. It's a time to talk about our old, friendly days."
Former senior director of Asian affairs at the White House National Security Council Michael J. Green compared Xi's landmark trip as a "Valentine's Day date" with the US.
