Pre-college boot camp gives visually impaired students a taste of independence

A program in Beijing is preparing visually impaired incoming college freshmen — teaching them to use computers, ride public buses and even navigate dating, skills that most sighted students take for granted.

The Jinmangzhang boot camp, held this August in Beijing, goes beyond textbooks. It focuses on independent living, campus navigation and building social connections — all aimed at helping these students enter mainstream universities with confidence and real-world know-how.
