National Day holiday sees surge in border crossings
China's border inspection authorities recorded 15.46 million inbound and outbound trips during the National Day holiday from Oct 1 to Wednesday, marking a 6.7 percent increase year-on-year, the National Immigration Administration said on Thursday.
The daily average was nearly 2.21 million trips, with passenger traffic peaking at nearly 2.4 million on Oct 4.
Foreign nationals made 682,000 inbound trips, an increase of 5.4 percent from the same period last year. Of these, 505,000 entered China under visa-free policies, up 9.2 percent year-on-year. Meanwhile, mainland residents made 4.44 million outbound trips during the holiday, up 9.3 percent year-on-year.
The authorities also processed 732,000 inbound and outbound movements of aircraft, ships, trains, and vehicles, an increase of 14.7 percent year-on-year.
