BEIJING - A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Saturday urged US politicians to view China's development in an objective and rational way, stop making groundless accusation against China and contribute more to China-US mutual trust and cooperation.

Spokesman Hong Lei made the remarks in a statement issued Saturday morning in response to the US Republic Party's recently-released China policy and US Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney's remarks concerning China in his nomination speech Thursday night.

Hong said China has taken note of the contents concerning China in the new platform of the Republic Party and Romney's remarks in his nomination speech.

All American politicians, regardless of political party, should view China's development in an objective and rational way, correctly understand China-US relations, stop making groundless accusation against China and intervening in China's internal affairs, and do more contribution to promoting China-US mutual trust and cooperation in a responsible way, Hong said.

"They should recognize that these are basically in accordance with US interests as well," said the spokesman.

He stressed that it is the common cause of China and the United States to push forward the mutually beneficial cooperative partnership with mutual respect.

It is in line with both countries' interests and conducive to the peace, stability and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region and the world to promote the continued, sound and stable development of China-US relations, Hong said, adding that this is the correct direction both sides should adhere to.
