The 24th World Congress of Philosophy will be hosted by Peking University in 2018 in Beijing. The university signed an agreement with the International Federation of Philosophical Societies at Peking University on Wednesday.
Wang En'ge, president of Peking University, and Dermot Moran, chairman of FISP, attended the signing ceremony.
During the ceremony, Moran said the World Congress of Philosophy was mostly hosted by European countries during the past 114 years, since it was first held in 1900. He said the conference in Beijing in 2018 will be only the second time for the congress to be held in an Asian country, after it was held in Seoul, Korea, in 2008.
The World Congress of Philosophy has been held every five years since 1900, and has been organized by FISP since it was established in 1948. China won the opportunity to host the 2018 congress during the 23rd World Congress in Athens, Greece, in 2013.
