Unlicensed kindergarten raises concerns

An unlicensed kindergarten surrounded by debris of demolished buildings in Xi'an, capital city of Shaanxi province, has raised concerns, Huashang Daily reported.

A mother surnamed Liu said she was particularly worried about her child's health as dust blows in from the surrounding construction sites. Other parents also expressed concern and said they were planning to pull their children out of the school.

The school, originally an office building, signed a 20-year lease in April this year and opened to receive about 100 kids in September, according to the principal of the kindergarten Jiang Genghua. The villages nearby started to move in August.

"The construction work usually goes on at night and we will do all we can to protect the children," Jiang assured worried parents. The school, which only has a catering service license and a health assessment report, is in the process of acquiring a license, according to the principal.
