BEIJING - Major revisions for China's Seed Law began on Friday as the country moves to better regulate the seeds industry, now the world's second largest after the United States.

A draft amendment to the Seed Law was submitted to China's top legislature for a second reading at the start of the bimonthly session Standing Committee of the 12th National People's Congress. The meeting will last from Friday to Wednesday.

Under the amendment, rules are simplified to get a permit for seed production, a move to stimulate innovation at the industry.
