Quality supervision and inspection authorities across China closed down 348 large entertainment facilities in amusement parks and 23 ropeways in skiing parks found to pose serious safety risks ahead of New Year's Day.

The authorities inspected more than 12,000 entertainment facilities and more than 600 skiing ropeways as of Tuesday to ensure the safety of visitors when they have fun during the coming three-day New Year's Day holiday that starts from Friday, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said in a new release on Tuesday.

Ski parks in North China and big amusement parks in South China are entering a peak period of business, with the arrival of the holiday.

Accidents have happened occasionally in amusement parks in China in recent years, with some resulting in fatal consequences.

An entertainment facility in an amusement park in Wenzhou, Zhejiang province, started to operate before some visitors finished fastening their safety belts during the International Workers' Day holiday on May 1. Five were thrown away, and two of them died of injuries, according to China News Service.
