Nearly 300 rock paintings depicting nomadic and agricultural lives have been discovered in northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, researchers told Xinhua Jan. 14.

The paintings of crops, animals, horseback riders and symbols were found on three gigantic rocks in Helan Mountain, Shizuishan City, said Han Xuebin, head of the Shizuishan Historic Relic Administration Institute.

"Some paintings vividly depict farmland crops, such as the ears of wheat, which are rarely found," Han said.

The exact age of the paintings is not yet known.

A total of 2,250 ancient rock paintings have been found in Helan Mountain.
