Fine arts exchange

The most comprehensive show of contemporary Hungarian art is ongoing in Beijing.

An official cultural exchange program between the two countries, the exhibition presents more than 300 oils, ink paintings, watercolors, pastels, fountain pen sketches, lithographs, fiber art, ceramic works, and sculptures by 33 renowned Hungarian artists, such as Incze Mozes, Jankovics Marcell and Orosz Istvan.

In return, China will hold an exhibition of contemporary Chinese art at the State Museum of Hungary in August 2012.

Sounds of youth

Young musicians Liu Yanhong on violin, Su Yi on cello and Han Yun on piano will hold a chamber concert at the Peking University Hall.

Entitled Three Primary Colors, the concert aims to present the harmonious combination of these musical instruments.

The program includes Schubert's Serenade, Beethoven's Piano Trio No 1, Piazzolla's The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires and Dvorak's Piano Trio No 4.

Shanghai

Urban confusion

Chen Linggang's canvases and calligraphy works often spark a discussion of architectural form and cultural diffusion. The artist's abstract presentation of urban high-rises mirrors the contemporary landscape of confinement and the quest for cultural identity. Chen, who majored in environment from Jilin Forestry University, aims to raise awareness of the harmony between man and nature.

Sa Dingding concert

Contemporary folk singer and songwriter Sa Dingding will perform in Shanghai. Sa won the BBC World Music Award for best woman artist from the Asia-Pacific region in 2008 for her debut album Alive, making her the first Chinese musician to win the prize. Her second album, Harmony was the top paid download on iTunes last year. She has toured 12 countries and regions in recent years.

Tales of the night

The solo exhibition of Xiang Liqing, Night Tale, features his paintings, digital installations, and sculptures, among other creations. His works depict people, books, trees and abstract figures that call to mind night scenes.
