"Traditional art cannot have a 'genetic transformation' just to fit the public taste. If all the musical forms can be changed into popular music to cater to young people’s needs, then why do we still need so many different types of music? If that were the case, we'd just need one voice for China and that'd be enough," Tian said, emphasizing the importance of artists protecting traditional tastes for traditional art.
