This year marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Tibet autonomous region and the China Shanghai International Arts Festival is presenting “A Week of Tibetan Culture” from Oct 27 to Nov 1.

The event features songs and dance performances from Tibet, as well as an exhibition of precious cultural relics, which will go on till Nov 26 at China Art Museum, Shanghai. A total of 120 artifacts, many of which have never been brought outside of Tibet before, are on show. Many of the relics being showcased, such as statues and portraits of Buddha, rank among the most outstanding achievements in Tibetan art and they display traits of local culture as well as those from India, Nepal and other parts of China.

From Oct 30 to Nov 1, another exhibition of cultural relics from Tibet will be held at the Shanghai Mass Art Center on 125 Guyi Road. This exhibition will feature authentic art pieces and handicrafts, as well as demonstrate how the Tibetans perform crafts such as leather processing, blacksmithing, and the making of paper and incense.
