Xu Cao (1899—1961) was a famous character painter born during the Qing Dynasty. He was a skilled painter and specialized in portraits of ladies from ancient times, gongbi style, xieyi style (sketching thoughts), and line drawing (simple and straightforward style). The painting above depicts the dragon-lion dance during the Spring Festival's celebration.
