`Pirates' sails to $90.2 million at box office

NEW YORK – "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" sailed to $90.2 million at the box office.

The fourth film of the Walt Disney franchise topped the weekend box office with 2011's best opening thus far. In the 3-D "On Stranger Tides," Johnny Depp returns as Capt. Jack Sparrow, but Penelope Cruz and Ian McShane introduce new characters following the exit of Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom.

In its second week of release, the acclaimed comedy "Bridesmaids" held very strong, taking in $20.9 million for Universal.

The top 20 movies at U.S. and Canadian theaters Friday through Sunday, followed by distribution studio, gross, number of theater locations, average receipts per location, total gross and number of weeks in release, as compiled Monday by Hollywood.com are:
