Comment on "Need to protect our Good Samaritans" (China Daily, Jan 5)

The author deserves to be thanked for drawing readers' attention to the tragedy.

I live in Fuzhou, Fujian province, and have faced similar situations. After reading the article, I think I will call 110 or 120 seeking help for people in need. But I am afraid I will not go beyond that after reading about the two youths who have been dragged into a lawsuit after having helped an injured elderly woman.

Our society needs such good Samaritans. And though it is important for governments to encourage altruism, authorities should also take measures to protect the good Samaritans, or else they can fall into similar kinds of trouble.
