China beats emission reduction target

File photo shows a sewage treatment plant at the Three Gorges Reservoir area, in Yichang, Central China's Hubei province. China exceeded its target on reducing pollutant emission during the 11th Five-Year Plan from 2005 to 2010, according to the Ministry of Environmental Protection on Jan 13. A total of 500 million kilowatts of desulfurization facilities in coal-fired power plants had been built and the urban sewage treatment rate had reached 75 percent, 23 percent more than in 2005.
