Veteran police officer takes anti-drug fight online

A disabled police officer in Baise, Southwest China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, launched a micro blog on t.qq.com in October. As of Feb 17, 2011, the micro blog focusing on the fight against drug smuggling had over 1.67 million followers.

Ma Xiao, 44, started his career as a police officer in 1987 and became an anti-drug officer in 2000. But in 2002, while driving through a mountainous area to a nearby county on a work trip with two colleagues, Ma's vehicle fell off a cliff and he was seriously injured. He could never stand again.

After years of in-hospital treatment and rest outside Baise, he returned to his hometown in 2008.

He launched a blog and a website on anti-drug awareness but got little attention from Internet users as of 2007. But just a month after starting his anti-drug micro blog, he had about 320,000 micro bloggers following him.

He now spends most of his time answering questions posted by followers and continues writing online about his anti-drug fight.
