Suicide rate on the rise

About 250,000 Chinese people kill themselves every year and 2 million attempt to do so, said a health report.

Suicide has also become the most cause for the death of people from 15 to 34, Beijing Evening News has reported.

Depressive disorder is the most common motive for suicides, a report from Beijing Municipal Health Bureau says.

According to data from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the suicide rate has risen 60 percent in the past 50 years; 75 percent of suicides happen in rural areas.

Sept 10 is World Suicide Prevention Day. It is promoted by Organizations such as the International Association for Suicide Prevention and the World Health Organization.
