Bronze human head

Unearthed in Pit 2 at Sanxingdui

This is the only coronal-wearing bronze human head unearthed in Pit 2 at Sanxingdui. It can be concluded that the bronze head and the coronal were casted separately. The man has a thin and withered face, frowning eyebrows, imposing and stately. Without written records about the coronal though, it’s estimated to be a symbol of high status.

Bronze sun wheel

Diameter: 84 cm

Unearthed in Pit 2 at Sanxingdui

The bronze sun wheel, with five lines symbolizing rays of sunlight, is considered to be an ornament of shields in primitive dancing. It remains unknown why the circle was divided evenly into five sections rather than four, six, eight, or twelve, when symmetry was much sought-after and much easier to achieve in ancient Chinese crafts.
