The final of the First China Boutique Wine Challenge contest was held on November 4 in Hong Kong. After the judges’ tasting, 10 Chinese boutique wines -- which could represent best the visage of today's Chinese wine market -- were selected. The "Great Wall Estate Shiraz Dry Red Wine 2009" from Ningxia received the title of "Overall Best Red Wine."
The jury consisted of 12 experts, senior wine critics and media people from the Hong Kong wine industry. The criteria followed the scoring system of the Hong Kong Wine Accreditation Association.
Ultimately, in addition to the award for dry red wine won by the "Great Wall Estate Shiraz Dry Red Wine 2009," the Ningxia St. Louis•Dingfasete Cabernet Sauvignon 2010" won the No.1 prize for a Cabernet Sauvignon dry red wine; the "Aromatic Estate Organic Chardonnay White Wine 2010" was crowned the best dry white wine.
China's First Boutique Wine Challenge contest was jointly organized by Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland with its preliminary and semi-finals held in Yantai, Shandong. The selected top 10 wines with the highest quality from each region advance into the semi-finals and then the top 30 will be selected out of the candidates from the preliminaries. Finally, the finalists in the semi-finals will contend for the ultimate titles.
