LONDON – David and Victoria Beckham are expecting their fourth child in the summer, Victoria Beckham's spokeswoman confirmed on Sunday.

The couple's three sons - Brooklyn, 11, Romeo, 8, and Cruz, 5 - were said to be "very excited" about having a new brother or sister.

Jo Milloy, spokeswoman for Mrs Beckham, confirmed the baby news but declined to give a more specific due date or confirm how far the pregnancy was advanced.

Former England captain David, 35, and pop star-turned fashion designer Victoria, 36, married in 1999 and live in Los Angeles where he plays for LA Galaxy.

The announcement of the pregnancy came just hours after Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp said his attempt to sign Beckham on loan was a "no-goer".

He said one-time Manchester United midfielder Beckham would train, but not play, with the Premier League side.

Victoria - known as "Posh Spice" during her days with the Spice Girls - said recently that she was open to the idea of another child but resigned to the fact that she may never have a daughter.

"Maybe one day another baby, but at this stage I think the chances of a girl are quite slim," she told the February issue of Vogue magazine.

The baby news also comes just months after Beckham filed a lawsuit against a US celebrity weekly that published allegations that he slept with a prostitute.

Beckham's legal representatives said the claims were "completely untrue and totally ridiculous."
