NANCHANG, Jiangxi province - Chinese national team shooter Lu Miaoyi has set her sight on the 2012 London Olympic Games after winning a silver medal of the women's 10-meter air pistol at the Chinese City Games on Tuesday.
"I will try my best if I could go to London," said Lu, a 19-year-old representing Guangzhou, the capital city of south China's Guangdong province.
Lu, who started as a basketball player, switched to shooting in 2006 and was called up to the national team after catching attention of head coach Wang Yifu.
"I am so happy that I could train with Olympic champion Guo Wenjun, who is my idol. I learned a lot from the national team, especially from veteran shooters."
Lu's couch Fu Jun said Lu is a calm girl with strong nerves.
Lu scored a perfect 10.9 points at the last shot to surpass Zhang Mengyuan to win the silver. Huang Yamei totaled 486.3 points for the gold.
"I did not think too much when I was only third after eight shots," said Lu.
The City Games, designed for teenage athletes, has been hailed as the cradle of future Olympic champions. Chinese sports icons Liu Xiang and Yao Ming both started their careers in the City Games.
