Zhou Xiaochuan, the governor of China's central bank has won the title of Euromoney's Central Bank Governor of the year 2011.

Zhou won the award for his policies in handling the Chinese economy stably and his achievements of promoting China's trade activities, according to the Euromoney magazine.

He is proficient in taking effective measures during the economic slowdown caused by the global financial crisis and smoothly balanced the relations between the rising tensions of controling the inflation and ensuring the nation's steady economic growth, said the magazine.

By implementing a tightening interest rate policy, Zhou has significantly reduced the chance of Chinese economy suffering a hard landing, according to the magazine.

"Zhou has become increasingly influential on the global stage, using China's position as the biggest investors in government bonds in the US and the EU to call on developed countries to work closely together to manage the sovereign debt crisis," said Euromoney.

"Over his tenure since 2002, Governor Zhou has become one of the most important central bank governors in the world, while giving a new level of credibility to the role through his timely and appropriate responses."
