BEIJING - The National Meteorological Center (NMC) on Saturday maintained a yellow alert for rainstorm in East China as Typhoon Soulik is approaching.
The NMC said heavy downpour brought by Typhoon Soulik hit Taiwan early Saturday morning and is expected to affect parts of the mainland's Fujian, Zhejiang and Jiangxi provinces.
Soulik is expected to hit Fujian in a coastal region between Lianjiang and Xiapu counties between Saturday noon and late afternoon after its center passed Taiwan and is moving northwestward, said the NMC.
The NMC added that heavy rain will also sweep East China's Shandong province Saturday.
The center warned of possible natural disasters including floods and mudslide, and urged authorities in the affected areas to take precaution measures.
China uses a four-tier color-coded weather warning system, with red being the most severe, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
