China sweeps Russia in women's chess team worlds fifth round

ANKARA - China defeated Russia 4-0 Thursday in the fifth round of the 2011 World Women Chess Team Championship (WWTC) in Mardin province of southeastern Turkey.

World Champion Hou Yifan and her teammates Ju Wenjun, Zhao Xue and Tan Zhongyi won their games successfully and the Chinese team made the third clean sweep in this Championship.

Chinese coach Yu Shaoteng said: "It is a great success because we prepared well and the players carried out the right tactics."

"Hou Yifan showed her talent, she can be named the leader of the Chinese team. After her victory, her teammates won the other games in a quick way. All of us feel glad about this, we can have a rest tomorrow."

In other matchups, Ukraine defeated South Africa, Armenia beat Turkey, Georgia ousted Greece, and India vanquished Vietnam.

For the 2011 edition held between December 18 to 28, China has dispatched five-member squad of Hou Yifan, Ju Wenjun, Zhao Xue, Tan Zhongyi and Zhang Xiaowen.
