A massive rock fell off a mountain in Guilin, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, on Thursday morning, leaving seven tourists dead and 25 injured. All those injured were admitted to hospitals nearby.

China's National Tourism Administration asked the southern city's local tourism office to assist the victims.

Following the incident, the national tourism administration urged people to pay closer attention to news related to tourism, meteorology, geology, traffic and health so that safety measures are kept in mind while traveling to touristy spots.

The administration suggested that people traveling in groups follow their tour guide's advice.

Individual tourists were advised to stay away from underdeveloped tourist sites and increase their awareness of risks undertaken while engaging in outdoor activities such as mountain climbing and rafting. Self-driven tourists should follow traffic rules and guard against driving when sleepy or exhausted.

Travel agencies were asked to make plans to enhance customer safety.

The administration asked personnel at scenic spots to raise their own safety awareness levels, strengthen safety management, formulate contingency plans for emergencies and eliminate potential hazards. Hotels and catering companies should step up food hygiene management, the administration said.
