UNITED NATIONS - UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will address the opening session of the Nuclear Security Summit in the Netherlands on Monday.

UN deputy spokesman Farhan Haq said Thursday that Ban will also meet leaders attending the two-day summit in The Hague. Among those expected are leaders of the seven major industrialized nations, including US President Barack Obama, and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

Ban, who is currently in Moscow and heading to Ukraine on Friday, will travel to Greenland on March 25 to witness the melting of ice sheets and the impact of climate change, Haq said.

On March 26, Ban will meet indigenous people in the town of Uummannaq with the prime ministers of Denmark and Greenland. He will also view the Ilulissat Icefjord, a World Heritage site, by boat, Haq said.
