HANOI - Vietnam is expected to host various meetings of armies among the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in November, said a Vietnamese army official on Friday.
Nguyen Phuong Dien, Deputy Head of the Propaganda and Training Department, under the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army made the announcement at a press conference held in capital Hanoi on Friday, saying that the 15th ASEAN Chiefs of Army Multilateral Meeting (ACAMM-15), the fourth ASEAN Sergeant Major Annual Meeting (ASMAM-4) and the 24th ASEAN Armies Rifle Meet (AARM-24) will be held in Vietnam this month, state-run news agency VNA reported.
According to Dien, this is the first time Vietnam has ever hosted ACAMM, ASMAM and the second time it has organized AARM.
The AARM-24 will be held on Nov. 19-28, drawing 10 delegations from ASEAN members including Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
Participants will compete in five contents of rifle, machine gun, carbine, men's pistol and women's pistol.
Under the theme of increasing coordination capacity of armies in ASEAN countries in response to non-traditional challenges, the ACAMM-15 will take place in Hanoi on Nov. 25-29.
During the same period, Vietnam will host ASMAM-4 in Hanoi with the theme of role, function, task of commissioned officers and professional soldiers in armies of ASEAN countries as well as future cooperation potential, according to VNA.
