New director for trade office named

The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Toronto (HKETO) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government (SARG) announced on Oct 30 that effective Nov 2, Kathy Chan will succeed Gloria Lo as HKETO director.

Chan joined the SARG in 1999 as a member of the Administrative Officer Grade. She worked in different policy bureaus and departments including, home affairs, economic development and labour, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Shanghai and the education bureau.

Before coming to Toronto, she served as a principal assistant secretary in the commerce and economic development bureau and was responsible for policy matters in support of small- and medium-sized enterprises, postal services, and trade relations between Hong Kong, Taiwan and the China mainland.

She received a bachelor's degree in business administration from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Since its establishment in 1991, the HKETO has been serving as Hong Kong's representative office in Canada and actively fostering closer economic and trade ties.

Gloria Lo assumed the post of HKETO director in 2011.
