It was one hot day at Beijing's Wukesong Arena on Oct 18 with A-Mei, Elva Hsiao, Pace Wu and Christy Chung strutting their stuff at the 10th CCTV-MTV Music Honors ceremony.
Some of the most important figures in Chinese pop music - Song Zuying, Han Hong, Na Ying, A-Mei, David Tao, JJ Lin and Jackie Chan's son Jaycee Chan - lent their voices to the evening that saw 18 awards given.
For the sixth time, singer Na Ying bagged the Mainland's Most Popular Woman Artist of the Year award.
Although it was cold and raining, the 43-year-old turned up in a cool black one-piece dress.
When the host joked: "Do be careful. It is slippery," pat came the reply: "Don't mention it! It is just '10 years of winds and rain'!" in reference to a decade of trials and tribulations ever since she picked up her first award at the ceremony 10 years ago. Although Na's last album came out eight years ago, she hinted that a new one was in the works.
Taiwan singer Tien Fu-chen, popularly known as Hebe, who showed up and sang Love, revealed she was "a little lonely" without her teammates Selina Jen and Ella Chen.
Rising to fame with the pop girl band S.H.E, Tien released her own album To Hebe in 2010.
"I have no regrets separating from the band. The best part of being on your own is that you get more attention, but I will always feel lonely," Tien said, adding that she hoped at have a go at the best new artist honor in 2011.
The honor of the Mainland's Best Artists of the Year went to Han Hong (female), Sun Nan (male) and the Phoenix Legend (band).
Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macao's best artists were A-Mei (female), David Tao (male) and Mayday (band). Song Zuying and Yan Weiwen were voted Best Folk Artists. Tan Jing's World (Shijie) and Jaycee Chan's Feigned Action (Jia Dongzuo) won the Best Videos of the Year award.
Han Geng was crowned the Mainland's Most Popular Male Artist, while Elva Hsiao and JJ Lin were crowned the Most Popular Artists of the Year in the Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macao areas.
The best songs title went to Legend (Chuanqi) and Let Me Send You a Jasmine from the East (Songni Yiduo Dongfang Moli).
