Educational monitoring and evaluation

More than 50 educationists from 30 countries joined over 100 of their Chinese counterparts at Beijing Normal University from Nov 29 to Dec 1, to share ideas about monitoring education and evaluation.

The 2010 International Conference on Educational Monitoring and Evaluation, organized jointly by the National Education Inspectorate Office, Ministry of Education, and the Directorate for Evaluation, Forecast and Performance, Education Ministry of France, was aimed at facilitating the exchange of national and international experience in student assessment systems, and their implementation, inspection and application.

The biennial conference will be held alternately in China and France.

Lingnan school painters hold show

What's new

Ink artist Tang Qinghai and his student Zhang Guobin held a group show at Guyuan Art Museum in Zhuhai, southern Guangdong province. The exhibition ended on Dec 8.

On display were more than 100 paintings of Chinese mountains and rivers. Tang is renowned for his ink paintings rendered in a style widely recognized as typical of the Lingnan Painting School in Guangdong province.

Shining stars for classical symphony

Well into its fourth year, the Symphony Under the Stars performance by the Hong Kong Symphonic Orchestra (HKPO), a much-loved free musical event, drew audiences from all walks of life on Dec 1.

The HKPO, led by its associate conductor, Perry So, opened the evening with Antonin Dvorak's Carnival Overture, leaving the audience captivated by Israeli-Russian pianist Boris Giltburg. The evening ended in a blaze of colorful fireworks.

"Classical music is something you can share with the entire family," says Maisie Shun Wah, general manager, group public affairs, of Swire Pacific Limited, the concert's sponsor.

The orchestra has run comprehensive school-education programs since 2006, allowing more primary students to enjoy classical music.

Love Each Other filming begins

Shooting on Love Each Other, a three-episode comedy with a stellar cast, has begun in Fukang city, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.

Produced by Beijing Century Star Culture Communication Co Ltd and written by Gong Kaibo, known for his popular Spring Festival Gala skits, such as Selling Crutches, the show stars Jiang Chao, comedian Pan Changjiang and popular cross-talker Li Jing.

Revolving around the post-80s generation's search for true love, it is set against the stunning natural scenery of Tianchi Lake and will be shown during the Spring Festival season.

Documentary festival starts in Guangzhou

A total of 576 documentary films from 58 countries and regions will be presented during the annual Guangzhou International Documentary Film Festival, which kicked off in Guangzhou on Monday.

A forum with panelists from home and abroad discussing policies related to China's documentary film industry, was held on Tuesday.
