The central government suggested solar power generation be boosted by 75 percent by 2015.
The policy guideline issued by the State Council on Monday said the country's photovoltaic power generation capacity should reach 35 gigawatts by 2015, more than triple current levels.
In addition, tariff and subsidy policies for the solar power industry will last 20 years, according to the document.
Details of tariffs and subsidies for the industry are expected to be introduced in August, said Meng Xiangan, vice-president of the China Renewable Energy Society.
