McDonald's announced on Thursday that comparable global sales increased 0.7 percent in July but its sales in Asia were down.
Comparable sales represent sales at all restaurants, whether operated by McDonald's or by franchisees.
Comparable sales in the Asia-Pacific region, the Middle East and Africa declined 1.9 percent, reflecting negative results in Japan, Australia and China.
The company said it was taking measures to boost sales in these areas.
US sales increased 1.6 percent during July. In Europe, July's comparable sales declined 1.9 percent.
