In another blow to New Zealand's damaged reputation, Dairy Food producer Westland, has exported 390 kilograms of contaminated milk products to China.

Two batches of milk, containing dangerously elevated levels of nitrate were discovered by Chinese tests. The nitrate levels of the two stood at about 610 and 2190 parts per million or PPM, far exceeding the 150 standard set by New Zealand itself. No contaminated products made it to supermarket shelves. Westland has blamed a cleaning product as a cause of the high nitrate levels. The Westland health scare follows infant formula recall of Fonterra products, New Zealand's largest dairy producer.
