China's government bodies have been urged to use more domestically-developed software to protect national security, according to a statement on the central government's website, a measure expected to help boost domestic IT companies.
More than 50 percent of the office equipment in government offices, including software, computers and printers are domestically made. The Ministry of Industrial and Information Technology started promoting domestic products in 2009.
But the US government's PRISM spying scandal has raised requirements for the safety of government information.
Experts said domestic software is safer in blocking hacker attacks, and domestic software markers are more reliable in helping protect the nation's information.
