BEIJING -- 14 Beijing-based companies edged into the 2013 "Top 50 Most Admired Chinese Companies" list released by Fortune China in late September, accounting for 28 percent of the total, the highest among all provincial regions in the country.

Seven enterprises from Zhongguancun, or "China's Silicon Valley," were included on the list: Lenovo Holdings, Xiaomi Technology and Founder Group, Baidu, JD.com, NetEase and Sany Heavy Industry.

Baidu, China's search engine giant, was included in the top three for the fourth consecutive year, but had to give up one spot this year -- down to the No 2 position. Alibaba, China's largest e-commerce group, made its way to the top spot in 2013. Electrical appliance giant Haier Group took a third place.

Popular Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi Technology, founded only three years ago, became the youngest-ever member to be featured on the list. It was ranked 11th.

To form the list, a total of 300 candidate companies were assessed across nine categories, including their products and services, long-term investment value, innovation capabilities, financial stability and abilities to attract new talent.
