Xintang in Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong province, has grown into the country's largest jeans manufacturing and export base, local government sources said.
The township has more than 4,000 companies involved in jeans manufacturing and processing, with daily production of some 2.5 million pair of jeans, accounting for 60 percent of the country’s total.
The township also accounts for 30 percent of the country’s exports of jeans, according to local customs authorities.
Shan Xueju, chairman of the Xintang commerce chamber, said the local government has cooperated with e-commerce service provider Alibaba to build an online platform for local jeans manufacturers.
“The online service will better help us upgrade the jeans industry,” Zhan said during the opening of the township’s annual jeans fashion festival on Thursday.
