Last summer, 60 teenagers from western provinces joined composer Zhang Yadong, actress Chen Shu and pianist Zhao Yinyin for the opening ceremony for an Audi Driving Dreams youth camp, part of a five-year initiative to improve the skills and outlook of young people.
Hosted by FAW-VW Audi, UNICEF and the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), it was Audi's fourth yearly summer camp to build teamwork and potential in young people.
The five-day program included sports and other outdoor events as well as research and discussion.
The event also included career counseling, presentations on job hunting, advice in giving speeches and a singing competition.
Participants also visited Tiananmen Square, the National Zoo, and China Science and Technology Museum to enrich their knowledge.
FAW-VW Audi highlighted that they would thank UNICEF and CAST for their selfless efforts for the Audi Driving Dreams program.
Due to support from all levels of society over the past five years, more than 30,000 teenagers received living skills training from 140 Audi Driving Dreams knowledge and information research centers around the country.
Together 100,000 young people and their family members benefited from the program.
FAW-VW Audi expressed that they feel so proud of the program's achievements, and they are more confident they will do better in programs that benefit the public.
Audi will continue it social improvement efforts even though the first five-year Audi Driving Dreams program is drawing to an end.
Lata Menon, chief of Education and Child Development Section of UNICEF China, said that Audi fully supported the program during the last five years.
"We are deeply moved by Audi's perseverance and care in public programs and we are looking forward to further cooperation," she said.
Actress Chen donated 60,000 yuan at the opening ceremony to show her support for the Audi Driving Dreams program.
Profile
The UNICEF and FAW-VW Audi jointly began a five-year public service project in 2005, the UNICEF-Audi Driving Dreams Partnership for Adolescent Development and Education Program.
The objective of the initiatives was to build an adolescent's academic and social competence, confidence and character.
It also sought to improve a child's relationship with his or her immediate environment and society at large.
From 2006 to 2010, the Audi Driving Dreams established a number of knowledge and information centers, providing basic life skills to adolescents who left school without completing nine years of basic education.
