More than 100 million yuan ($16.22 million) will be added this year for the purchase of relief supplies to aid a total of 200,000 people in the event of an emergency in Beijing, Beijing Daily reports.

The Beijing municipality has planned to purchase new relief supplies to guarantee aid to additional 40,000 people in 2013 with a project funding of more than 100 million yuan, with the newly purchased supplies going into storage before the end of June, said Li Hongbing, deputy director of the Beijing Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau.

Gate-leg tables, folding beds, tents, cotton-padded clothes and other relief supplies are kept at the Beijing relief materials reserve storage unit, a 15,700 square meter facility located outside the South Ring Road, the paper added.

Beijing plans to set up five disaster relief storage spaces, including one center storage area and four branch center storage facilities. If a disaster hit Beijing, the branch facilities would provide service to relevant districts and counties, while the center storage unit would simultaneously send relief materials to areas in need of aid and relief.
