Official probed for discipline violation
Wang Suyi, head of the United Front Work Department of the Inner Mongolia autonomous region, has been investigated for committing a serious discipline violation, according to the Communist Party of China Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, Xinhua News Agency reported on Sunday.

Ex-college chief out of legislature
The Standing Committee of the National People's Congress announced on Saturday that former Nanchang University president Zhou Wenbin has been expelled from the national legislature. Zhou was deprived of his seat at the 12th NPC on May 29 by the Standing Committee of the Jiangxi Provincial People's Congress, where he had been elected. The decision followed an investigation into Zhou for his alleged serious disciplinary violations.
Education facility set up for teens
The China Youth Development Service Center set up the country's second education facility for teenagers in Beijing on Sunday. Sun Zhu, director of the center, which is affiliated with the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China, said the facility will boost the social education of teenagers.
Bureau eases complaint process
Starting on Monday, the State Bureau of Letters and Calls will operate a complaints department on its website. Shu Xiaoqin, head of the bureau, said the move was aimed to guide people to use the website to express their demands and provide a convenient way for them to check the process and result of their complaints.
Law mandates visits to elderly
Children who fail to visit their elderly parents regularly will violate an amended law on protection of seniors' rights and interests. The law, to be put into effect on Monday, states that young family members should care about the psychological needs of old family members, and that those who live at a separate place should often visit their seniors.

Man killed 4, then himself, police say
A man killed a family of four in Hebei province before committing suicide on Saturday night, police said. The 60-year-old man, named Zhao, visited the home of a man named Zan in Botou at 9 pm, killing Zan, his wife, daughter-in-law and grandson with a hammer and a kitchen knife. He then committed suicide in Zan's home. Zhao's son is the ex-husband of Zan's daughter, and the two families have been embroiled in a divorce dispute, police said.

Dog owner could go to prison
The owner of a Tibetan mastiff that attacked and killed a child in Liaoning province could face a prison sentence of seven years if convicted of negligent homicide, a judge in the Liaoning Higher People's Court said on Saturday. The 3-year-old girl was with her mother in a grocery store in Dalian on Thursday when the store owner's dog bit her throat.

Rain-triggered floods leave 4 dead
Four people have died and four others are buried under houses that collapsed due to flooding triggered by downpours in Anhui province on Sunday, local authorities said. The floods that hit several districts and counties in Huangshan have also left two people missing, the city's flood control center said.
Stolen baby report fake, authorities say
Police said on Sunday that a woman who claimed someone had drugged her and abducted her newborn made up the story to cover her abortion. The woman told her husband that the child was born and then kidnapped on Wednesday when she went to a hospital for a pregnancy test. A police investigation showed that the woman had an abortion when she was four-months pregnant because the fetus was found to have abnormalities.
Sichuan
2 dead, 5 missing in floods, landslide
Two people died and five others are missing in Sichuan province after torrential rain triggered flooding and landslides in the region on Sunday, local authorities said. The downpours have left two residential houses in Zizhong county, collapsed, killing one person, the provincial flood control office said. The rainfalls also caused a landslide in Suining, killing one person.
Girl plummets nine stories onto woman
A 5-year-old girl fell from the ninth floor of a building in Sichuan province and hit a woman. The girl, playing alone in a community building in Chengdu fell and hit the woman on Saturday. Huaxi City News reported on Sunday that both were out of danger. Her father was playing mahjong when the incident occurred, the report said.
