Sad to see Egyptians' suffering

For the past two weeks, I have been anxiously following the events in Egypt because of my profound love for the country of my birth. Although I am a Canadian citizen now and left Egypt in my teens, the country has a special place in my heart which has prompted me to visit it often.

During my last trip to Egypt, I noticed that most Egyptians were disappointed with the government for its lack of progress in solving the country's multiple problems, including deteriorating economy, lack of security, the poor state of public utilities, very high inflation and the massive downturn in the tourism industry.

Egyptians believed that the Mohamed Morsi-led government, which took office in 2012 after the "revolution", would solve all their problems. And when it failed to fulfill their expectations, they became angry and frustrated. They blamed Morsi and Muslim Brotherhood for the enormous problems facing ordinary Egyptians.

But by holding frequent demonstrations, Egyptians no matter which party they belonged to unwittingly played a role in the downslide of the economy.

I am saddened by the events in Egypt, and all I can do is pray and hope that Egyptians acquire some wisdom and stop killing each other.
