Chang'e-3 to enter space this year
The Chang'e-3 probe is scheduled to enter space by the end of this year for its lunar landing mission, the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense announced on Wednesday. "Chang'e-3 has officially entered its launch implementation stage following its research and construction period," the administration said.
City braces for heavy traffic
Road traffic in the capital is expected to worsen next month, transportation authorities said. With many schools restarting, commentators believe Beijing's roads will see heavy traffic on Sept 17, 18, 22 and 29, according to the city's Commission of Transport. Authorities have planned for the heavy traffic by streamlining bus routes, adding subway trains and establishing a communication platform for taxi services.
Yellow alert as storm nears
Maritime authorities have issued a yellow warning for waves brought by tropical storm Kong-rey, according to the National Marine Environmental Forecasting Center. Kong-rey, the 15th tropical storm this year, is expected to enter the East China Sea, passing through waters northeast of Taiwan, from Wednesday. Waves of up to 6.5 meters are expected in the southern part of the East China Sea and the adjacent waters off the Diaoyu Islands.

Man uses lost card to withdraw money
A man withdrew money using a bankcard he found and later gave himself up to police, Chongqing Commercial Daily reported on Wednesday. The resident of Chongqing's Nan'an district, surnamed Liu, found a bankcard and ID card on the way to work on Aug 12 and managed to withdraw 15,000 yuan ($2,450) by guessing the password from the information on the ID card. He turned himself in on Aug 15 and has been released on bail.

Customer opens 500 bank accounts
A resident in Hangzhou opened 500 bank accounts because he was angry with the service he received from a bank, Qianjiang Evening News reported. The man, surnamed Fu, went to a local bank on Aug 14 to transfer funds and was told he had to first open an account. Believing that was unnecessary and angry at the requirement, Fu returned several days later and asked clerks to open 500 accounts. The bank eventually apologized, and Fu stopped opening accounts.

Suspect detained for spreading rumors
A man accused of spreading rumors online was detained by police on Monday in Guangzhou, Guangzhou Daily reported on Wednesday. The suspect, surnamed Zeng, 27, is accused of spreading rumors online in late June that a prisoner in Guangzhou was sodomized and beaten to death by black prisoners. Police said Zeng confessed that he used to quarrel with African colleagues at work so he posted hundreds of articles online slandering Africans.
Driver sentenced over death
A bus driver in Xingning has been sentenced to one year in prison with one-year reprieve for being partially responsible for a passenger's death, Guangzhou Daily reported on Wednesday. On Feb 23, 2012, the driver forgot to close the bus door and a passenger fell out and died. The driver, surnamed Jiang, was also ordered to pay the victim's family 119,800 yuan ($19,600) as compensation.

Judge dismisses student's case
A student in Jiangsu province attempted to sue his parents because they were unable to pay his tuition fees, but the judge dismissed the case, Shanghai's Oriental Morning Post reported. The 18-year-old sophomore requested that the court order his parents to pay his tuition for the next three years. The judge said parents have no legal obligation to shoulder the costs for children aged 18 or older.

Stranger stabbed over cigarette
A man has been detained for allegedly stabbing a stranger who refused to give him a cigarette in downtown Shanghai on Wednesday afternoon, Shanghai police said. The man, who was having lunch at a restaurant on Huaihai Road in the Huangpu district, asked the victim to give him a cigarette. When the victim refused, the man pulled out a knife and stabbed him, police said.
