Patent center in west

The first patent examination and cooperation center in China's west will be established in the provincial capital Chengdu. Tian Lipu, commissioner of the State Intellectual Property Office, said Sichuan is a regional leader in information, innovation and human resources that provide strong support for development and innovation in the region. By 2018, the center is projected to have 2,000 employees and examine about 110,000 patents yearly.

Most geographic marks

The province topped the country in the number of trademarks with geographical indication status in the first half of this year, according to a recent announcement by the provincial industry and commerce administration. It also said there were 25,000 new trademarks granted to companies in the province over the same period, bringing the total to more than 320,000.

Patents and breakthroughs

A patent promotion and trade cooperation fair recently kicked off in Shenyang exhibiting some 150 international patented technologies and high-tech breakthroughs. It attracted 58 overseas research institutes and companies from seven countries and regions. The fair is aimed to revitalize aging industrial centers in Northeast China and expand technology exchanges and cooperation with foreign companies, according to local government.

First electric airplane

The RX1E, China's first self-developed electric airplane, recently made its debut at the Faku Flight International Conference held in the provincial capital Shenyang. Liaoning General Aviation Institute, its designer, said the two-seat light sport aircraft can reach a top cruising speed of 150 kilometers an hour and fly for 40 minutes after a 90-minute full charge.

Internet and IP

The second China Internet Innovation and Intellectual Property Protection Summit will kick off on Oct 17 in the provincial capital Hangzhou. As the largest event of its kind in China, the forum will attract more than 50 industrial giants along with government officials, renowned experts and venture capitalists to discuss hot issues such as privacy protection in the era of big data, cross-border cooperation in cloud computing technology, Internet-related IP protection and the application of digital evidence in legal cases.

Industrial and Commerce Bank of China ranked second on the annual list of Asia's 500 Most Influential Brands recently released in Hong Kong. Compiled by World Brand Lab in New York, the list covers 19 countries. China overtook Japan to become the leading country in Asia for the number of influential brands with 204.
