7 tips to help prevent suicide

The suicidal person is hesitant – part of them wants to live yet part wants to end the pain. If they begin to display suicidal behavior, do not consider it a show or threat. If a suicidal person turns to you, it's likely they believe you are more caring or skilled in coping with frustration.
4 Do not leave acutely suicidal people aloneIf means to commit suicide, such as pesticides, pills and guns are available, try to get rid of them. Detoxify the home. Seek professional help.
5 Treat mental illness
Lots of suicides result from long-term depression, schizophrenia or other mental illnesses. People suffering from such illnesses should get treatment to reduce their suffering and recover a normal life.
6 Show care to them
A person in despair often feels alone and helpless. If one shows care for them and asks about their misfortune, they will probably welcome the opportunity to unburden their woes and reduce the pain. Showing your care for a person in despair may prove a life-saver so let the person know you want to maintain contact.
7 Ask if they are thinking of suicide
Ask a despairing person whether they are having thoughts of suicide. Don't be afraid the question will prompt the action. Rather, you are showing that you are willing to let them share their pain with you. You are giving them a further opportunity to voice their pent up feelings.
